Volunteer With Us

Rag & Bones is operated by a collective of volunteers, and an army friends who help out on a walk-in basis. We currently have a drop in volunteer night where you can meet us, get introduced to the space, and get experience working on bikes for our shop and programs.

Drop in nights are on the first and third Thursdays of every month, from 6-8PM. If you have questions call us or email the shop at info@ragandbonesrva.org.

Coming to our drop in night is the first step to volunteering long term, so start here!

If you come to a number of volunteer nights and want to do more, we’re happy to talk to you about the collective and what goes into running the place. If you have a special skill or want to help with a certain project, you can fill out the form at the bottom of the page and we’ll get back to you when we can. The best way to catch us or talk about collaborating is just to come in and say hi.

Note that we have 3 roles within our larger space:

Bike Mechanic: In this role you help run the DIY bike shop space. This means learning mechanical skills, helping us build affordable bikes, talking to community members seeking knowledge and repairs, sales of bikes, parts and accessories.

Community Space Shopkeep: In this role you help with greetings folks as they come into the shop, recommending books and zines, talking about featured art or locally made items, carrying out sales at the register, and helping shelve books or zines. You will be able to sell new bike products and complete bikes.

Weekend Events Crew: In this role you help us run weekend evening events, or daytime markets, book discussions and more. You can help with organizing events, running door during the evening, talking to performers and doing sound, or just generally helping out on crew.

NO experience is necessary, just an interest in bikes, books, collective work and community health. If you have other skills that don’t fit the roles above, please note them in the form. If you have any questions reach out to info@ragandbonesrva.org
